6 Wines to Drink this Summer

There's nothing like a chilled glass of wine at the end of a hot summer day. A good summer wine should be light and crisp to refresh you in the hot weather, but it should also be versatile enough to be brought to the beach or enjoyed with grilled fished or BBQ. Vinho verde and rose wines are the stars this summer, shining bright above the rest for their crisp, refreshing taste and wallet-friendly price points. Vinho Verde, a Portuguese white blend that is crisp and clean with just a touch of bubbly, is a perfect summer wine. If you normally drink Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc, then you must give this varietal a try. Vinho verde is sessionable, meaning it is just a little lower in alcohol, making it the perfect day drinking choice. Better yet, it's what the locals drink in Portugal - making it a high quality, inexpensive wine and, with flavors of lime, pear, and apple, it's absolutely delicious.

Roses are another favorite summer wine for wine lovers. Despite most people thinking they're sweet like their lookalike white zinfandel, rose wines are clean, crisp, and refreshingly dry - this is not your grandmother's sweet pink wine. Dry rose wines are made in the same way as red wines, but the skins are removed much earlier, giving them a lighter body with a pink color. Rose wines are easy to drink and make a great companion at the beach or at the pool, kept cold in a carafe. We've put together a list of our top picks for summer wine drinking, all under $15 a pop.
