Position: Cafe Manager (Lola's Cafe)

The owners behind White Horse Wine and Spirits are looking for a motivated individual who is passionate about food and beverage to manage a new cafe opening May 2024. Part coffee shop and part cafe, Lola’s will offer daytime eats, homemade baked goods, and a full coffee bar. Our hope is to provide a neighborhood place for people to gather and chat, where you can get an excellent cup of coffee and a bite to eat. It will not be a typical breakfast-joint (if you’re looking for eggs-your-way with a side of bacon and toast, this is not that), but inspired by European cafe culture, you’ll be able to pop in for a morning coffee or while away the day with a meal in between. Lola’s will combine a cultured versatility with a funky approachability with vintage, moody hangout vibes and just the right touch of femininity. We want to provide a place where you can gather with friends or hang solo, a place built around comfort and community and good food and drink. And at night, we’ll host the occasional pop-up dinner party, tasting, or private event.

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about food and drink, who is excited by new things, and is eager to be a part of our cafe’s personality. This person is someone who makes travel plans around the restaurant they’ve been dying to try or the cool bar they’ve been wanting to check out. We want someone who likes really good coffee in the morning and a nice glass of wine at night. Cafe/barista experience and/or management experience required. However, a reliable person with an outgoing personality and a knack for hospitality is more important than experience.

The Cafe Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of Lola’s Cafe, including but not limited to personnel management, managing expenses and payroll for optimal profitability, ordering supplies, ensuring quality control, serving customers, and maintaining a clean and inviting environment.

Duties and responsibilities to include:

  • Overseeing and managing all day-to-day operations of the cafe
  • Ensuring a clean, welcoming, and pleasant atmosphere for guests and staff
  • Maintaining an understanding of the idea behind the cafe and cultivating cafe vibes while staying true to the owners’ vision
  • Delivering excellent customer service and leading your team to do the same
  • Recruiting, training, and supervising café staff
  • Preparing weekly work schedules for staff and finding suitable replacements in cases of staff absence
  • Ensuring that all café expenses are within budget and identifying ways to decrease operational costs
  • Receiving delivered café supplies and verifying that the correct items and quantities have been delivered
  • Managing inventory of café supplies and ordering stock and supplies as needed using best buying practices
  • Resolving any customer concerns with compassion and in a timely manner when needed
  • Identifying strategies to retain and attract customers
  • Scheduling and overseeing proper equipment operation and maintenance
  • Identifying any problems or issues and implementing operational improvements
  • Assisting with cafe events

Qualifications:

  • Passion for food, drink, and coffee
  • Clear and effective communication skills
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Comfortable taking ownership and responsibility
  • Strong problem solving skills, including the ability to troubleshoot
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Dedicated to growth and success of the cafe and is adaptable to the changing needs of the business
  • Able to work in a small team and be versatile
  • Has a minimum of 2 years of experience in the hospitality industry, management experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive preferred.
  • Knowledge of food, health, and safety regulations (ServSafe certification preferred but not required)
  • Knowledge and passion for following trends and developments in the food and beverage industry
  • Looking for a long term commitment
  • Able to work weekends

Full time, salary position starting at $60,000+ This is a position for Lola's Cafe, not White Horse Wine and Spirits. To inquire, email your resume and any relevant information to info@whitehorsewine.com with "Cafe Manager" in the subject line.
