Wine Wednesdays with Adam: Must Trys from France

Welcome to the latest installment of Wine Wednesdays with Adam! Each week we'll be exploring my favorite wines and what makes them stand out from the crowd. This week's wines: Must Trys from France.

I have always had a rough time with French wine. It always seemed intimidating and expensive -- both aspects I dislike about wine culture. But during a recent trip to France, I was able to gain a whole new appreciation and belief in French wines. The four wines below are all organic and made with little intervention, while still being approachable and over delivering for their price points. Enjoy!

Domaine Lafage Tessellae

 Medium Red Wine | Organic

This wine worth much more than its price point! It offers brilliant notes of black cherries, blueberry, licorice, clove, and spring flowers in its medium to full-bodied, gorgeously pure profile. Enjoy it with a nice semi-firm cheese like Drunken Goat.

$14.99

Château d'Oupia Les Hérétiques Pays d'Hérault

 Medium Red Wine I Organic

This Carignan comes from 40 year old vines. It has mineral depth, but a lighter, fruitier characteristic with aromas of raspberries and blueberries. A definite food wine at a great price -- enjoy with a nice burger and fries.

$9.99

Denis Meunier Vouvray Sec

 Light White Wine | Organic

The average vine age for this Vouvray is 55 years. It's focused and tender with aromas of ripe, yellow fruit.  Try it with chèvre for a classic wine-food match.

$20.99

J Mourat Fiefs Vendeens Blanc

 Light White Wine | Organic

A blend of 50% Chenin Blanc and 50% Chardonnay from 20 year old vines. Light gold in color, this wine displays aromas of green orchard fruits and white flowers. On the palate, this wine has a sharp, broad acidity that delivers incredible freshness and helps to deliver a long, concentrated finish. Enjoy with roast chicken, seared trout, or soft cheeses

$14.99
