Oppenauer Zweigelt
Bottle Size: 1 L
Medium Red Wines
The Oppenauer family has farmed in the Weinviertal for over 200 years, and been bottling wine under their own label since the 1950s. Although steeped in tradition, they aren’t afraid to embrace change in the pursuit of the twin philosophies of winemaking excellence and ecological responsibility. They were the first winery in their village of Poysdorf to convert to organic winemaking practices, and in 2003 converted all their land to organic farming, including the 85 ha of orchards and grains such as wheat, rye, and spelt. Today young winemaker Rainer Oppenauer continues the family tradition of producing approachable, affordable, sustainable wines.
This zweigelt is a perfect example: medium-bodied, it unfurls aromas of smoked meats, campfire, and pepper before delivering juicy blue and black fruit including currant, mulberry, and wild blueberry on the palate. A flourish of cracked black pepper on the finish makes this a perfect partner for grilled vegetables or sausage. Organically grown, vegan.
